Wow, was tonight’s episode a shocker! Pradeep, America’s favorite dope, completely turned it around!!! I’m still just simply stunned.
So we begin the episode with the guys rejoicing that Pradeep stayed. What? I guess some clever editing was misleading us the entire time, for it seemed only a complete masochist would want to live in the same house as that guy. Then again, as proud of Scott as we all might have been, from the point of view of the boys, he could have been seen as a real albatross.
On to the reward challenge: body language.
Once again, the theory of body language was completely edited out in favor of montages of disgusting man ass set to funky clown music, so I’ll explain. As Mystery said, our body language gives away secrets we may want to keep. Body language betrays our cool exterior. When we get into an uncomfortable situation, we will physically demonstrate this to those in our vicinity, and they will subconsciously pick up on it.
The reason body language even exists is important to understand. There was a time when people didn’t talk. At some point, after we evolved the ability to verbally communicate, some humans had to evolve a system of communication to use this new ability. What did we use before that? Right, body language. And like most of the left over traits from our caveman ancestors, body language is more or less out of our control. We don’t have to think about it, our subconscious brains just do it.
Read my post on the Stink of Desperation for a general overview of why subtle, subconscious behaviors over which we have no control are bad.
Good news is, it isn’t out of our control. Not entirely. See, our bodies will want communicate our true feelings, but if we know what those feelings are, we can catch ourselves doing it, and put a stop to it. After all, your conscious mind has final say over what your motor functions are up to — assuming you don’t have a major tic disorder or something.
Maybe I should write an eBook on body language. It’s a vast and rich subfield. You can read so much on a person if you know how to read body language. Someone remind me once the Threesomes eBook launch settles down, eh? I think a body language eBook would be stellar.
Anyways, in this episode, the guys simply needed to be aware of their body language in two facets: first, they were attending a pool party in nothing but a Speedo, and they needed to not convey insecurity. Second, they were surrounded by beautiful women, and needed not to convey intimidation. Note that later in the episode, Mystery commented a lot about leaning back (indicating comfort, ease, and authority) and talking over the shoulder (indicating only slight interest). All of these applied to the reward challenge, although they weren’t specified directly to the audience.
Joe D simply owned this challenge. Considering the utterly disgusting shape his body is in, this is surprising. The guy simply did an awesome job of rolling in, in nothing but a butt thong, with this complete air of “here I am, check this shit out”. Contrast that to the typical fat guy who won’t go in the pool unless he has a t-shirt on. In fact, didn’t Joe D say he was that guy in episode 1? I believe so.
The key is so simple: if you believe it, so will they. Read my post on Projecting Self Image. This challenge, and Joe D’s performance, is exactly what I was talking about.
Look at Joe D and Kosmo side by side. Joe D — fat, disgusting, and confident. Kosmo — in shape, good looking, and totally insecure. The end result? Joe D is the life of the party, and Kosmo is reduced to a chump. Do not underestimate the power of positive thinking.
So naturally, Joe D wins the challenge. He did step on Pradeep’s toes, but at this point in the episode we still hate Pradeep so it’s ok. Plus he whined like a little bitch about it, which was pathetic. Joe D’s prize was an adorable puppy to use in the next elimination challenge: day game.
Argh, it kills me that the show thinks the classroom material isn’t TV worthy. But I guess they got the basics. The idea is that pickup works anywhere, you just have to make small adaptations to your day game. No big deal, really. As Mystery points out, day game is just a bit slower than night game.
The reason guys fear day game is that there is a certain guarantee in night game. After all, at a club, most girls expect to get picked up. Hell, most of them are there for that very purpose. But at a coffee house, grocery store, or library, girls don’t expect it, therefore their defenses will be up. Right?
Wrong. I actually find day game to be much easier than night game. The reason is precisely that they don’t expect it. In fact, their defenses aren’t UP, their defenses are DOWN. Hardly any guy out there is going to approach a woman during the day, so you become different right away. The only hitch is that it is much easier to fall into “friend mode” during the day.
So, the guys head out to a local coffee house to put it all into play. Who ruled the day? Good God, I can’t believe this, but PRADEEP!!! But oh man was he good.
There were so many things he did well, but one of them is especially worth noting. When he opened his set, things were rolling. Then the target got a phone call and took it. Most guys blow it here by standing idly by, awkwardly, waiting for the girl to finish her call. Guess what fellas, girls don’t finish calls like we do. Calls drag on, and on, and on….
Pradeep showed real rock solid PUA instinct by immediately walking away. When that girl answered the phone, she dissed him a bit — just a test. By walking away, he answered it with an even harder dis. He demonstrated value. A high value guy doesn’t wait around for a strange woman to finish her call. He simply bails.
When she finished her call (hopefully a couple minutes after), he returned, and resumed. Awesome. Super smooth. Pradeep, I’m proud of you.
A low value guy, FYI, stands there like a desperate douche waiting for her to turn her attention back to him. Never do this.
The other guys weren’t half bad really. Joe D was a little lame this round. He is a terrific opener, but he doesn’t know where to go from there. Brady sucked it, again, and Joe W, as usual, leaped right into comfort and stayed there. Kosmo froze up again, which was really disappointing after last weeks showing. But he recovered once he saw a couple girls.
Pradeep, naturally, won immunity.
In case you were wondering what the tears were all about in the promo, it was just that the guys are bonding, and it bothered them to see one of them go. Which again underscores how utterly stupid the elimination gimmick is in this show. Pickup is not a contest, its not about being “the best” and “winning”, it’s about self-improvement. These guys really get that. Elimination makes no sense in this context. Pickup is really about getting over your fears, becoming a better man, and helping your friends become better men too.
Oh, and VH1: the commercials interrupting every “you earned it” moment, and the dramatic drawing out of the elimination challenge just highlights the stupidity of it all. Knock it off already.
Anyways, it came down to Brady and Joe W. My choice to go was Brady. Mystery’s was Joe W. Once again, I don’t get it, but after Pradeep redeemed himself this week, I’m going to trust Mystery on this one and wait and see.
Next week: the hardon challenge!

last week u said:
I’m really glad next week is daytime pickup. That is absolutely the hardest pickup ever. Should be interesting.
but this week:
I actually find day game to be much easier than night game
just an observation

Hi GMO-
I should have clarified — day game is absolutely the hardest pickup for most guys. For me, I find it much easier.
But there is no doubt that day pickup is very, very intimidating for the vast majority of guys. And it’s for the reasons I mentioned above — you bring a lot of preconceived notions to the set (”she’s here to shop, not get picked up”, “I look worse in daylight than in a dark club”, etc).

Woops, hit submit too soon.
So to contrast day pickup against working a club, during the day you aren’t swimming with sharks. There is a low chance of dealing with AMOGs, and women are more open to approach.
So in reality, what seems like the most difficult game, is actually the easiest once you realize what it’s all about.

i was wondering. is it alright to go after a girl you go to class with. here on collage, i have a lot of HB’s and SHB’s in my classes. so should i start off with something we learned about the class, or say something else, and if its the latter, what should i say, thats always been my problem. opening a set.

Byron-
Absolutely. No one is off limits, in my opinion.
Couple pointers:
Generally, don’t open with something having to do with the class. It is too situational, and since you are in class, its not going to be particularly interesting. And besides that, opening with class-related material is what every other guy is doing, right? So don’t do that.
If your school is large, there has to be something going on across campus that is more interesting. Or something going on in town. Or, as you may have already been told, something completely random and strange will work better. Canned openers like “flossing before or after brushing?” are lame, but they serve a purpose, which is opening the set, and opening it in a way that has very little to do with the current situation.
So, just come up with a strange question that invites conversation. Just don’t make it too weird, or you’ll end up looking creepy. College campuses have a LOT of creeps.
Second recommendation, about a mistake I made a LOT in college: DO NOT BECOME A STUDY BUDDY. There is no better way to NOT hook up with a girl than to go this route. You may think arranging a study date is a great way to saddle up to a woman, but in fact it drops you squarely in “friend” mode, and worse, she is most likely just using you to improve her grades.
Good luck!

As for the show - CANNOT believe how well joe rocked the pool! Good for him!
But, I wanted to comment on how annoying that girl was that Kosmo was talking to at the pool. I mean, she was hot… but omg i wanted to put the tv on mute.
Also, Pradeep pulled a 360. Last week i wanted him off because he wasnt implementing… this week he killed it!
And i was also real dissapointed in joe. He should have worked it with that dog - but that was hilarious when he used the line- something like: “Do you always walk up to guys and pet them.” I was dying!
And good advice seenstr - my freshman year of college i ended up in the friend zone twice because of the whole study buddy thing. Luckily those girls have been 2 of my best friends for 5 years now- but that’s besides the point.
Byron: I have a few good openers for you that u can use in class or elsewhere on campus. I dont know what kind of college you go to… but if this is applicable try it out and let me know how it goes.
At my college - there is always something crazy that happened the night b4. So, just make something up. It’s easy to learn how to be a good story teller - and even if ur not yet - girls love hearing about stupid drunk people.
So: “Hey did u hear about the guys that almost got arrested last night? They decided it was a good idea to climb onto the roof of the student center!”
or
“Did u hear about the big fight in the dining hall? Some guy threw a taco at a guy that hooked up with his girlfriend…it was crazy!”
or
“I have a quick question - some guy broke a ton of shit in my dorm last night… the whole dorm is going to have to pay the damages - but the guy is my friend’s boyfriend- and she told me not to say anything. I think I’m the only one who saw it - should i tell someone?”
And in terms of stacking- or if ur having trouble getting her engaged in the convo - you can always open with the first one - or the second… and follow up with the third. I personally find opinion openers to work the best.
